We're Fighting to Stop Sunnyside Yards

We are a grassroots, non-partisan neighborhood group in Western Queens that's fighting for a better quality of life, against displacement, for the protection of small businesses, and for better infrastructure in our communities. We want our tax dollars to go towards benefiting our communities, instead of real estate developers and powerful corporations.

We oppose Sunnyside Yards, not because we are against all development, but because the policies being pushed by the Mayor, city council, and the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY) would greatly harm Western Queens and, indeed, the entire city. Sunnyside Yards threatens to extend the large skyscrapers that have popped up in Long Island City over the past two decades deeper into Queens and our backyards.

Sunnyside Yards has been targeted for development for almost a century. Now, with the establishment of a steering committee, increased neighborhood outreach, and a timeline for the completion of a development proposal, it seems that Sunnyside Yards is finally on its way to becoming a reality.

In the recent year we've seen impressive mobilizations of grassroots groups to fight back against powerful corporations like Amazon, elect progressive candidates and promote legislation that helps working class and immigrant communities.
